First Impressions: Trying Village Mediterranean Grill in Clinton, NJ

I always enjoy trying new local restaurants, so I decided to stop by Village Mediterranean Grill in Clinton, New Jersey, for lunch. Since it was my first visit, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I’m happy to say it left a great first impression.

I ordered a grilled chicken bowl served over seasoned rice with peas, topped with grilled onions, roasted yellow peppers, fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, and a sweet creamy sauce on the side. To drink, I ordered the Starburst Strawberry Smoothie. It normally comes with blueberries, but since I’m not a fan of them, I asked if they could leave them out. They had no problem customizing it for me, which I really appreciated.

When my food arrived, the presentation immediately caught my attention. Everything was neatly arranged, and the bright colors made the bowl look just as fresh as it tasted. It honestly looked too good to dig into.

I decided to taste each ingredient on its own before mixing everything together. The cucumbers were cold, crisp, and tasted freshly cut—they didn’t have that soft or old taste cucumbers sometimes get. The tomatoes were warm from sitting next to the hot ingredients, but they were still juicy and full of flavor. The grilled onions and yellow peppers had the perfect balance of texture. They were softened from cooking while still keeping a slight crunch, which I really enjoyed. The chicken was juicy, well-seasoned, and easily my favorite part of the bowl. It had a delicious grilled flavor that paired perfectly with the sweet sauce served on the side. The rice, mixed with peas, was cooked perfectly and made the meal even more filling. Every ingredient tasted fresh, and together they created a meal that was satisfying without feeling too heavy.

The Starburst Smoothie was the perfect drink to go with my meal. Even without the blueberries, it was refreshing, full of fresh strawberry flavor, and not overly sweet. It was smooth, cold, and exactly what I wanted on a warm summer day.

After trying everything individually, I decided to mix the entire bowl together so I could get a little bit of every flavor in each bite. That ended up being my favorite way to eat it. The sweet sauce coated the rice and chicken perfectly, while the grilled onions, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, and peas blended together into one delicious bite. The warm chicken and rice paired surprisingly well with the cool, crisp vegetables, creating a mix of flavors and textures that made every bite exciting. While each ingredient tasted great on its own, mixing everything together is what really made the meal shine. Every bite had the perfect balance of sweet, savory, fresh, and smoky flavors, and by the end of the meal, I knew that’s exactly how I’d order it again.

Another thing that stood out to me was the portion size. Even after eating until I was full, I still had leftovers to take home. I always appreciate when a meal is filling enough that I can enjoy it again later because it makes it feel like an even better value.

Overall, my first visit to Village Mediterranean Grill exceeded my expectations. The ingredients were fresh, the portions were generous, and I appreciated that they were happy to customize my smoothie without any hesitation. From the presentation to the last bite, it was a meal that I genuinely enjoyed, and having leftovers was the perfect bonus.

Would I come back? Absolutely. There are plenty of other menu items I’d like to try, but I’d happily order this bowl again. Next time, I might even save room to try another smoothie or one of their desserts.
